The Johnson Creek Historical Society will be
hosting a Pioneer Day for the Johnson Creek Elementary 3rd grade children on
Friday, May 10 at the JC Community Center from 8:30 to 2:30 p.m. The
Pioneer Day will correlate with the One Room School simulation the children
are currently studying for the month of May. At Pioneer Day the children
will learn some old time skills which are not seen often anymore. The class
will break into 8 groups and travel the different sessions throughout the
day, starting off with making ice cream and butter. Other projects for the
day will include spool knitting, two man firewood cutting, paper dolls,
tending chickens, old time games, sheep shearing and beekeeping. The
children will be dressed in costume, bonnets in hand.
