Civil War Encampment Wade House 2009
On September 25, 2009 the Johnson Creek Elementary 5th Grade classes
attended the Civil War Encampment at the Wade House in Greenbush, courtesy
of the JC Historical Society.

The children learned first hand what is was like to pitch a tent, work the
rigorous day of a Civil War era company laundress, learn the games of the
1860's, witness the workings of a portrait artist near the battlefields,
learn the three R's of the resident school marm and be entertained by the
music and antics of the "snake oil" salesman. A sack lunch was enjoyed by
the group on a recently cut grassy meadow and the children were allowed to
shop in the company store tent and purchase old-time candy and games, as
well as supplies used by soldiers.
